ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Viraj Kantipudi, and I'm passionate about advocating for mental health, especially for teens and young adults. As an Eagle Scout and a student at Westminster School in Atlanta, I've had the opportunity to develop leadership skills, engage in meaningful research, and serve my community. My journey into mental health advocacy began with a research project where I explored the impact of environmental factors on depression. Through VirajMindMatters.com, I aim to share resources, offer support, and create a compassionate community for anyone facing mental health challenges. My mission is to ensure that every young mind receives the understanding and care it deserves.

My RESEARCH

The Effect of Environmental Factors on Depression (August 2023)

  • Authored a 4,000+ word scientific journal article on the impact of environmental factors on depression.  

  • Educated readers on the complexities of depression, including its links to education, poverty, and genetics, while providing strategies for enhancing daily life and promoting physical activity.  

  • Submitted and published in the Journal of Student Research High School Edition

The Effect of Bipolar I and II on the Human Psyche (August 2024)

  • Authored a 2,000+ word scientific journal on the effects of Bipolar I and II on the human psyche.  

  • Provided valuable insights into these disorders, helping readers understand their impact on mental health, relationships, and daily life. 

  • Submitted to the Journal of Student Research, High School Edition.

LEADERSHIP

Eagle Scout, Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, BoyScouts of America

  • Mentored younger scouts on proper safety measures when in the outdoors as well as first aid training. 

  • Achieved 24 merit badges encompassing a variety of skills and seven distinct ranks including the esteemed rank of Eagle.

  • Learned a variety of Wilderness Survival skills such as knot tying and fire building as well as leading by example.

Medical Shadowing

Dr. Gadde, Internal Medicine, Northside Johns Creek Hospital

  • Role: Collected and analyzed urine samples for abnormalities

  • Observations: Monitored patient interaction and standard procedures during check-ins.

  • Learnings: Gained insights into the dynamics behind lab testing of urine for abnormalities as well as patient engagement. 

HONORS AND AWARDS

Eagle Scout (2024)

  • Earned the esteemed rank of Eagle Scout given by Boy Scouts of America to only those who achieve seven distinct ranks as well as 24 Merit Badges spanning a multitude of skills

  • Awarded only to four percent of Scouts nationally

The National Outdoor Badge for Camping (2021)

Awarded to those who complete a number of requirements including earning the rank of first class, completing the camping merit badge as well as the first aid and cooking merit badge, and completing 25 days and nights of camping.

Westminster Honor Roll

  • Was on the Westminster honor roll for 9,10 grades.
